Counterscarps of the Château de Vincennes

Vincennes, France

A stone from the Oise to restore the counterscarp walls of the castle

The walls of the counterscarp of the Château de Vincennes have been restored since September 2019.

To replace the damaged ashlars of this 12-meter-high enclosure built almost 640 years ago, it is the Pierre de Saint-Maximin Franche Construction, marketed by Polycor which was chosen. This restoration is carried out under the leadership of Christophe Batard of 2BDM Architects and chief architect of Historic Monuments.

Installation is provided by the Dubocq company.

“The intervention is necessary because of the general sanitary condition of the surrounding wall which today shows damaged stones, sometimes patched with a lot of cement. (…) It is a remarkable project. The ditches which surround the castle present an astonishing constructive regularity, particularly for the time. "
