The Gores Group Headquarters

Beverly Hills, CA, United States

An office building from the 1960s transformed into an interactive workplace

Gores Group, a private equity firm, wished for a modern, high quality building for its Beverly Hills headquarters. The architectural firm Belzberg Architects has designed a building with a kinetic facade for this purpose.

The existing structure of the building has been preserved, the interiors renovated, the facade completely redesigned. Three different materials were used to create the unique envelope pattern: glass, stone and perforated metal.

Polycor’s light Massangis French limestone covers the walls. The carved stone, which imitates the arched shapes of glass, gives the impression that the entire facade is in motion. This office building has received numerous awards, including the Los Angeles Business Council Award of Excellence.

« The stone is carved three dimensionally into similar shapes as the slumped glass, blurring the line of the material transition. When the stone flattens into a thinset cladding, the pattern is abstracted into a reveal condition.»
